Agein Corporation, a Leading Anti-Aging Company, Responds to Survey Showing “Selfie” Trend Increasing Demand for Plastic Surgery
Boston, MA (PRWEB) March 29, 2014 -- Agein.com, the Internet’s premier anti-aging web site focusing on anti-aging tips, news, and advice from some of the foremost experts in the industry, responds to a survey showing the “selfie” trend is increasing the demand for plastic surgery.
“Thanks to smartphones and photo-sharing apps like Instagram and Snapchat and social media platforms like Facebook, the selfie, a photographic self-portrait, has become a defining cultural trend,” says Dr. Kevin J. McLaughlin, Agein.com’s anti-aging specialist. “And now, the desire to capture the perfect selfie is causing an increasing number of people to seek out face-related plastic surgery.”
According to a recent survey conducted by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), one in three plastic surgeons has seen an increase in the number of people looking for procedures due to patients’ self-awareness of their looks on different social media platforms. According to these plastic surgeons, the number of nose-related procedures jumped 10% year-over-year in 2013, while the requests for hair transplants were up seven percent and eyelid surgery requests were up six percent. Dr. McLaughlin explains that the idea of wanting to “put your best face forward” and make the perfect first impression with a selfie is not limited to teens. In 2013, roughly 40% of respondents saw a rise in demand for non-surgical procedures to delay facial aging. In addition, more than half (58%) saw an increase in cosmetic surgery or injectables, such as Botox, in those under the age of 30.
“Those over 30 are also keenly aware of the aging process and want to turn back the clock,” he adds. “The most common cosmetic surgeries performed on women in 2013 were facelifts and rhinoplasties, with Botox being the most popular non-surgical procedure among women. Men, meanwhile, while concerned with wrinkles, also like having a full head of hair.”
Dr. McLaughlin notes that it could be argued that a selfie is the ideal way for a photographer to control the way they present themselves and, for some, is a great outlet for self-expression. But for many, a selfie is more than just a picture; it’s an easy way to get short-term approval. Unfortunately, however, that desire for constant reinforcement is leading many to seek plastic surgery.
“Studies show that a growing number of people are turning to cosmetic procedures to help them look more attractive to their online community,” Dr. McLaughlin observes. “But the fact of the matter is that the path toward a richer, healthier life includes diet, exercise, supplements, mental wellness techniques, and a personal skin care regimen.”
Dr. McLaughlin concludes that to prevent the visible signs of aging, consider an anti-aging product with ingredients that have been clinically proven to significantly reduce fine lines around the eyes, diminish the appearance of deep wrinkles, and improve skin tone. Look for an anti-wrinkle cream with advanced but gentle ingredients, like Alpine rose plant stem cell extract, and peptides such as “Matrixyl 3000” and “Argireline.”
