Dairy farms, apple orchards, vineyards, sugar shacks and farm stands not only define the landscape, but the way of life.
Farms and Farm Museums
Dairy farming is by far the biggest agricultural enterprise on the Adirondack Coast. More than 120 dairy farms house close to 20,000 dairy cows. Some of the largest family-owned dairy farms in New York State are found on the Adirondack Coast and help contribute to the 380 million pounds of milk produced by here annually; milk that you’ll find in familiar products such as Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream, McCadam Cheese and various Cabot products including butter, cheese and Greek yogurt.

Adirondack Coast Wine Trail
Grape growing and wine production on the Adirondack Coast have exploded in the past five years. The grapes grown here are hybrids of European grapes and hardy American rootstock that can withstand cold temperatures. Many of these grapes were introduced to the world in just the last 10-15 years, so they’re like nothing you’ve ever experienced.

Orchards
The Adirondack Coast is one of the highest producing apple areas in the United States second only to regions in Washington State. In fact, we’re home to the world’s largest Macintosh orchard, with more than 30,000 trees – and you can pick them right off the tree.
- During the fall harvest you can find pumpkin patches, petting zoos, wagon rides and corn mazes at many of our orchards
- Many orchards are open throughout the year offering summer fruits and vegetables, gift shops with locally crafted cider, jams, jellies and honey and bakeries right on site
- Many orchards ship apples and pies

Maple
On the Adirondack Coast, maple sugaring is a rite of spring. Once the snow starts to melt, sugar shacks heat up with production of liquid gold – genuine maple syrup. Get a taste of the Adirondack Coast as well as live demonstrations, historic reenactments, family recipes and, of course, a bottle of your very own maple syrup.
