AIA Statement on Introduction of the PARTS Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. (PRWEB) February 25, 2015 -- Tom Santos, vice president for federal affairs for the American Insurance Association (AIA), issued a statement following today’s introduction of the Promoting Automotive Repair, Trade and Sales (PARTS) Act. Introduced by Representatives Darrell Issa (R-CA) and Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) in the House of Representatives as H.R. 1057 and Senators Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) in the Senate as S. 560, the PARTS Act would reform automotive patent design laws while preserving the current competitive repair parts market.
Mr. Santos’ statement follows:
“AIA thanks Reps. Issa and Lofgren and Sens. Hatch and Whitehouse for introducing the Promoting Automotive Repair, Trade and Sales (PARTS) Act. The PARTS Act will provide greater choice for consumers while preserving a competitive consumer marketplace for high-quality automotive repair parts.
“Consumers have benefited from the use of high-quality generic car parts for decades. Their ongoing use represents an estimated annual cost savings of $1.5 billion to $2.4 billion.
“AIA will work with other members of the Quality Parts Coalition, which includes insurance, automotive repair and consumer groups, to support passage of this bill.”
