AICCCA Says Avoid Red Tuesday™ Debt Caused by Black Friday Overspending

Fairfax, VA (PRWEB) November 25, 2013 -- Thanksgiving is upon us with this year’s Black Friday sales preceded by Thanksgiving Day itself. But taking advantage of these sales without a plan could create what the Association of Independent Consumer Credit Counseling Agencies is calling a “Red Tuesday” for consumers, leaving them with debt that may take years to repay. AICCCA urges consumers to buy only those items that they have planned for – including a plan for paying.

“The key to preventing a Red Tuesday and frankly, a Red 2014, for consumers is planning,” said Dave Jones, president, AICCCA. “Consumers need to know what they can afford to spend and how they will spend those monies before they shop.”

Avoid a Red Tuesday by:

§ Knowing what you can afford to spend. Sit down with your family and decide how much available cash you have for shopping. Make a list and compare prices before you set out.

§ Paying with cash, check or debit card. Leave your credit cards at home so you won’t be tempted by a big sale on something you didn’t plan on.

§ Using credit cards with care online. Shop only at sites you trust. Be sure to take advantage of free shipping and coupons. While credit cards are the safest option for online shopping, be sure you have a plan to pay the cards off immediately or at the least in 90 days or less.
