AIMS 360 Apparel ERP Software Mentors Urban Youth Entrepreneurs
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 30, 2013 -- AIMS 360, the fashion industry's leading apparel ERP software spoke to urban children from the Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE). Seventeen student entrepreneurs (ranging from grade school to high school) and their advisors visited the AIMS headquarter office in downtown Los Angeles to learn more about AIMS, its products, how the company got started, and what they have done to accomplish where they are today.
AIMS360' Director of Training, Scott Allen, and Chris Walia, Director of Business Development & Marketing spoke about the importance of a business plan and offered some tips for being a successful entrepreneur. Students learned about various features of AIMS360, the development of the software in DOS, and how it has evolved to the latest version, AIMS360, on the .NET platform.
Scott Allen spoke candidly about his personal entrepreneurial adventure with his apparel line, NOTICE, goals they set to become successful, the importance of business plan, and having the drive to succeed. Students were able to better understand the details that are involved and the dedication it takes to build an apparel company from the ground up.
Following the discussion students were tasked to go purchase something for $25 that was related to the business they plan to start. "The students are going to learn how to do markups. Purchase a product at a wholesale price, mark it up, and then sell that product at a profit," said Chris Walia. Rhonda Santifer, the children's mentor, gave the students $25 out of her pocket and the students will have to give her the first $25 back to her first and then can keep the profits.
A week after the meeting, Chris Walia from AIMS was asked to volunteer as a mentor in assisting students to develop their business plans. The children were tasked to develop a strategy for their business including a mission statement, product description, costing and marketing. The businesses varied from apparel and accessories to lotions and hot dogs. "These young professionals are determined and have a great understanding of what it takes to be the success of our next generation of entrepreneurs," says Chris.
Chris Walia worked with a very talented student who wants to pursue his business in apparel. He focused his business plan on clothing manufacturing, more specifically focusing on an apparel skate board brand that gives back to the local community. Enlightened by other fashion skate wear companies, his unique shirt and hat designs boast products that are affordable and relay positive messaging, encouraging children to not give up.
Once completing the business plan, the students presented their plans to their advisors. The advisors then gave back constructive feedback to fill in gaps to build a successful business.
