Air Force Band Adopts Etymotic Earplugs
Elk Grove Village, IL (PRWEB) January 30, 2015 -- 50 members of the 562nd Air Force Band, also known as The Air National Guard Band of the West Coast, have now been custom-fitted for Music•PRO high-fidelity electronic earplugs. Music•PROs are made by Etymotic Research, an innovator in hearing wellness solutions, and are available on etymotic.com.
The Air Force Band is celebrated for its world-class musicianship. Formed in 1941 and stationed at Channel Islands Air National Guard Station in southern California since 1990, the band has performed all over the globe, and maintains an especially active schedule in California and the surrounding states.
Unfortunately, according to a recent noise dosimetry survey conducted by the 146th MDG Public Health Services, the relentless effort to achieve musical perfection was putting band members’ hearing at risk by exposing them to decibel levels of 95 dB over an 8-hour period for more than 60 days a year. To safely maintain their workload, members needed the best hearing protection available.
Band manager Chief Master Sergeant Jürgen Schwarze researched custom-made Musicians Earplugs and “found the Music•PRO high-fidelity electronic earplugs [to be] the only adaptive electronic earplugs that automatically adjust to changing sounds levels,” he says. Chief Schwarze reports that he’d been test-wearing his Music•PRO earplugs since January 2013 with excellent results. “Due to their dynamic nature, whether we’re performing at high volume levels or having a conversation, the earplugs adjust in a way that the user experiences natural hearing without overexposure to dangerous levels of noise.” Impressions of the musicians’ ears were taken last fall and the Music•PROs with custom-molded sleeves, were delivered shortly afterward.
When wearing Music•PRO electronic earplugs, hearing is natural, as if nothing is in the ears, until sound exceeds safe levels. As sound levels increase, the earplugs gradually provide a choice of either 9- or 15-dB sound reduction. Natural hearing is restored when sound returns to safe levels.
