Airman’s Son Honors Fallen Father: “His Example of Compassion and Self-Sacrifice Inspired Me To Become a Physician”
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) December 20, 2013 -- Today, Matt Stein is a Special Operations Flight Surgeon.
“My dad made the ultimate sacrifice for our country,” he said.
“The men and women involved with the SOWF, and the principles they live by, inspire me just as much as my dad does. As the son of a fallen warrior, one of the most difficult periods of my life was made easier by the kindness of the people at the foundation.”
As it has for more than 33 years, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation reached out to the Stein family. Surviving spouse, Barbara was told they would never have to worry about how to afford a college education.
The Special Operations Warrior Foundation provides scholarships to children of special ops personnel killed in the line of duty. The organization has 145 students enrolled in colleges and universities across the country.
Matt attended the University of Illinois; where, in four years, he completed double majors in Chemistry and Aviation, with an additional concentration in Piano Performance. After that, he chose to attend medical school, and graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago in 2012.
Losing his father was “one of the most difficult periods of my life.” Over the years, his father has been a tremendous source of inspiration. One of the most important lessons Matt learned from his father is a concept that is intrinsic to special operators: Always excel.
