Alameda South Shore Center Set to Host Community Celebration for the Fourth of July Holiday
ALAMEDA, Calif. (PRWEB) June 17, 2016 -- Free Summer Festival to Feature The Sun Kings, Petting Zoo, Local Craft Beer and Wine Benefitting Equipped 4 Success Community School Supply Drive
Alameda South Shore Center, the family-friendly destination for shopping, dining and entertainment located on the banks of the San Francisco Bay, is pleased to announce that the annual Fourth of July Festival will take place on Monday, July 4 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Following the 40th annual Alameda Mayor's Fourth of July Parade, the largest and longest Independence Day parade in the nation.
“I'm looking forward to joining community members at South Shore after the Parade to continue the festivities honoring our Country's Independence Day,” said Trish Spencer, mayor of Alameda. “Huge thanks to everyone for truly making the 4th a day of activities in Alameda.”
Alameda South Shore Center’s free festival will feature an array of fun activities for all ages including a petting zoo, bounce houses, face painting, henna tattoos, games, raffles, live music from The Sun Kings, California's Premier Beatles Tribute band, and more.
“Our shows at Alameda South Shore Center have become one of the band's most enjoyable performance experiences,” said Drew Harrison of The Sun Kings. “Last year, Center Court was packed with people of all ages, singing and dancing. Not only is it tremendous fun but proceeds from the Alameda Education Foundation’s wine and beer table support the community’s schools. It is a win-win for everybody! Alamedans definitely know how to have a good time, and they seem particularly good at it on the 4th of July. Looking forward to seeing our friends and fans at South Shore after the parade!”
Beverage and raffle ticket proceeds from the event will benefit Equipped 4 Success (E4S), a collaboration of the Alameda Education Foundation and several nonprofits who have teamed up to ensure that no student begins school without the school supplies they need to be ready to learn.
“Alameda South Shore has been a vital partner in our Equipped 4 Success school supply drive since it began in 2012,” said Vicki Sedlack, Executive Director of Alameda Education Foundation. “We are so excited to partner with the Center for the highly-anticipated Fourth of July Festival as the funds generated from these events are one of our major sources of revenue for the drive.”

About Equipped 4 Success
Equipped 4 Success is a collaboration of the Alameda Education Foundation and several nonprofits who have teamed up to ensure that no student begins school without the school supplies they need to be ready to learn. New backpacks and quality school supplies are distributed to low-income students served by: Alameda Boys & Girls Club, Alameda Head Start, Alameda Point Collaborative, Dream Catchers (Alameda Family Services), Girls Inc. of the Island City, McKinney-Vento homeless program (AUSD) and the Woodstock Child Development Center. AEF manages and serves as the fiscal sponsor of the program. Equipped 4 Success serves up to 1,000 low-income kindergarten - 12th grade students each year.
