Alaska Forget Me Not Coalition to Present Faith-based Training Workshop
Juneau, Alaska (PRWEB) February 20, 2016 -- The Alaska Forget Me Not Coalition presents a one-day, faith-based training workshop for clergy, faith leaders and service providers who serve the unique spiritual needs of the Military community. Through this free training workshop, attendees will explore reintegration challenges and learn about available resources. The workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, February 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Alaska National Guard Armory. The event is free and includes lunch along with continuing education credits for service providers.
Throughout the state, the partners of the Alaska Forget Me Not Coalition strive to provide training opportunities like this workshop for those who are interested in learning how to better serve the Military population. Many Service members, Families and Veterans may naturally seek guidance, advice and support from their local faith-based leader before anyone else. This training workshop is designed to equip service providers and faith leaders with the knowledge of behavioral health issues that affect the Military community. According to Chaplain Ted McGovern of the Alaska National Guard, "Over the years, I have had several pastors ask me how their churches can better support their Military members and Families. Our community faith events are good opportunities to gain knowledge and learn from best practices to truly support these men and women in uniform."
The faith-based training workshop will feature training topics such as military cultural competency, the national program, Partners in Care, adverse childhood experiences, suicide prevention and post-traumatic stress disorder. In addition, Army OneSource will provide an overview of local and statewide resources available to service providers and faith-based leaders, and attendees will have the opportunity to network and learn about existing services in the area.
The faith-based training workshop is made possible by the Alaska Forget Me Not Coalition, including the Alaska National Guard, Army OneSource and the United States Coast Guard.
