AlertSystems Comment on Live Stream CCTV Installed on Birmingham Bus
(PRWEB UK) 12 November 2013 -- The BBC has reported in the article ‘Birmingham Bus Beams Live CCTV Images to Police’ published on November 6 that a bus in Birmingham has been fitted with high definition CCTV cameras which stream live footage to a tablet computer located in an unmarked police car following the bus. Police select either the Black Country or Birmingham bus route and use the bus equipped with CCTV to monitor incidences which may occur on the vehicle.
The bus, known as the ‘Trojan’ bus, has been funded by National Express and will be used to combat a variety of issues such as graffiti and vandalism, as well as violence after two fatal stabbings occurred on buses in the area this year. Alongside the CCTV, the bus is equipped with window sensors which will trigger the CCTV to begin recording if they are being vandalised. Other hidden cameras on the bus will continuously film as the bus travels on its route.
Chief Inspector Ian Green told the BBC that once the pilot project has been assessed towards the end of this year the technology may be rolled out to other buses.
