All Hopped Up! A local couple, Greg and Tammy Solt, buy Grove City Café and Turn it into a Craft Beer and Wine Bar
Grove City, OH (PRWEB) February 02, 2015 -- On Friday, February 6th, 2015, a new local bar, Hop Yard 62, will open its doors. Formerly known as The Garden Café on Broadway, owners Greg and Tammy Solt bought the business in early January. With the help of some friends, they have been working to transform the space into an industrial-style craft beer and wine bar. HY62 will feature 13 beers on tap, and offer additional bottled brews. They hope to eventually have up to 20 tap options. Additionally, they will offer about 10 different wines, including a few local options. The bar will not serve food, but will provide menus from neighboring restaurants whose food can be delivered or brought in. They are also looking in to the possibility of having food trucks parked near the bar on weekends. “We are excited bring the locals back to the place where it all started.” said Tammy.
The Garden Café was originally owned by Will Roberts and Carol Alberts, who featured live music on weekends, and beer and wine tastings during the week. The couple sold the café in early 2014, and since then the café has seen a steady decline in customers. Will and Carol, who currently run a restaurant in St. Croix, are now 50 percent owners of Hop Yard 62. “We are excited to be a part of the effort to expand the craft beer scene in Grove City that has become so ripe for growth” said Carol.
A few events the owners plan to hold throughout the year include: A craft beer education class for women, Salute to Service (a tribute to veterans and first responders), beer school, tap take-overs, beer and food pairings, and trivia night, to name a few. “We want Hop Yard 62 to be about community. We want to teach people about the different styles of craft beer” said Greg.
So how did “The Garden Café on Broadway” become “Hop Yard 62”? “Hops” is one of the key ingredients in craft beers and was grown in Ohio until the early 1900’s. Currently, a Hop Yard Plot is being tested in Wooster, OH and features a quarter-acre setup designed to research about 10 varieties of hops. 62 is a reference to the state route that runs in front of the current location of the bar.
