All Volleyball Donates over $5,000 to Support Breast Cancer Research, Awareness
(PRWEB) January 26, 2015 -- Last October, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, multi-channel retailer All Volleyball helped finance breast cancer research and awareness programs by donating more than $5,000 to the Side-Out Foundation. The Side-Out Foundation puts on volleyball tournaments and other special events to increase awareness of breast cancer and raise money to support research into potential cures. Throughout October, All Volleyball called attention to breast cancer with a “Pink Pride” campaign, which featured free giveaways of special “Pink for October” t-shirts and weekly photo contests for the best “Pink Pride” outfit; throughout the campaign, All Volleyball donated $1 to the Side-Out Foundation for every new person who started following All Volleyball’s blog or the company’s pages on Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, Snapchat, or Instagram. All Volleyball also sold “Pink Pride” items throughout October and donated 5 percent of the final proceeds to the Side-Out Foundation.
All Volleyball supports breast cancer awareness and research programs because breast cancer has substantial impacts on the lives of many Americans. The American Cancer Society states that, aside from skin cancer, breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among American women; it is also the second leading cause of cancer death for women in the U.S., exceeded only by lung cancer. About 12 percent of women, or roughly 1 in 8, will suffer from invasive breast cancer at some point in their lives, and the ACS predicts that in 2015, breast cancer will claim about 40,290 lives, without even counting male cases; additionally, an estimated 231,840 women will be diagnosed with new cases of breast cancer. Still, research offers hope for these victims; the ACS states that breast cancer death rates have dropped over the last 25 years, likely due to more effective methods of detection and treatment. All Volleyball hopes to contribute to these important advances against the disease by raising public awareness and donating money to support ongoing research.
