Andover, NY (PRWEB) September 18, 2013 -- As the first blush of Fall color starts to show in the hills of Allegany County, Allegany Artisans announces nine new artists and craftsmen exhibiting for the Studio Tour this October 19 & 20.
The Studio Tour was begun in 1988 by a group of local artists and creative entrepreneurs who regularly exhibited at arts festivals and fine craft shows. Unlike their usual exhibition and sales events where many artists gather in a single venue, the Studio Tour invites the public to visit the artisans in their own workshops. The various potteries, wood shops, and other studios are organized for visitors with work put on display, so that the art may be appreciated and purchased in the same environment where it is created.
New exhibitors who join Allegany Artisans must be approved by a jury process to select for quality and professional preparedness by the Artisans Board of Directors.
In Alfred glassblower Stephen Edwards, who specializes in intensely patterned designs and artistic jeweler Len Curran, whose work combines a variety of alternative and recycled materials will be exhibiting for their first year with the Artisans Tour.
In Andover the colorful and sculptural ceramics of Mark Corwine will be shown at his studio on Route 417. Les McKay will exhibit his furniture creations made of native black walnut on Lever Hill.
In Angelica, Mary Warner is the first ever printer to join the tour rekindling the love of paper and ink with antique presses and movable type.
In Houghton, Nancy Petrillo’s functional pottery is inspired by nature and captured in porcelain.
In Wellsville paintings of the rural Allegany Highlands by Pat Gay will be on display at her Donnybrook studio on Palmer Road. Marshall Green’s ceramics are on display at Gods Mud Pottery on Stevens Street. Paintings, drawings and conceptual portraits by Sheila Kalkbrenner will be shown at her studio on South Main Street Wellsville.
These new exhibitors raise the total number of exhibiting studios to fifty, the largest number of Artisans in the twenty six year history of the annual Allegany Artisans Studio Tour.
The Studio Tour is a free event, open to the public without prior registration. Color brochures that include illustrations of the work to be exhibited and Artisan contact information, directions and maps can be picked up at many local businesses. A complete listing of exhibitors is also online at AlleganyArtisans.com. The tour hours are 10 to 5 on Saturday October 19 and Sunday October 20.
