Alliance Coal Scholarship Awards Announced
Tulsa, OK (PRWEB) September 09, 2013 -- The Alliance Coal Scholars Program recognizes scholastic achievement by the sons and daughters of employees, awarding $1,000 scholarships to the top three graduating high school seniors and $500 scholarships to the next five highest-ranking candidates. The $1,000 scholarships are renewable for up to three additional years. Since 1996, the program has provided $222,000 in scholarships to 137 students. In addition, three teachers are selected annually to receive a $500 Alliance Coal Teacher Achievement Award. A total of $25,500 has been given to exemplary teachers since the program started 17 years ago.
“Alliance Coal congratulates this year’s top-ranked students and is proud to provide this recognition of their achievements in the classroom and the community,” said Brian L. The top three students, awarded $1,000 renewable scholarships, are:
Brittany M. McGlamery, graduate of Scott County High School in Georgetown, Kentucky, daughter of Julie McGlamery, employed by Alliance Coal, LLC in Lexington, Kentucky. Brittany will study Music at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky.
Ashley D. Wallace, graduate of Owasso High School in Owasso, Oklahoma, daughter of James Wallace, employed by Alliance Coal, LLC in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Ashley will study Dance at Oklahoma City University in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Jeffrey A. Wurth, graduate of Union County High School in Morganfield, Kentucky, son of Gregory Wurth, employed by River View Coal, LLC in Waverly, Kentucky. Jeffrey will major in Business at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky.
The scholars receiving $500 awards are:
Elizabeth A. Black, graduate of Dawson Springs High School in Dawson Springs, Kentucky, daughter of Greg Black, employed by Warrior Coal, LLC in Madisonville, Kentucky. Elizabeth will major in Physical Therapy at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky.
Jeffrey Z. Bradford, graduate of Union County High School in Morganfield, Kentucky, son of Jeffrey Bradford, employed by River View Coal, LLC in Waverly, Kentucky. Jeffrey will study Biology at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Maggie S. Hancock, graduate of Union County High School in Morganfield, Kentucky, daughter of John Hancock, employed by River View Coal, LLC in Waverly, Kentucky. Maggie will study Nursing at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky.
Kayla L. Stringfield, graduate of Webster County High School in Dixon, Kentucky, daughter of Eddie Stringfield, employed by Sebree Mining, LLC in Sebree, Kentucky. Kayla will major in Biology at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky.
Claire R. Wood, graduate of Ohio County High School in Hartford, Kentucky, daughter of Walter Wood, employed by Webster County Coal, LLC in Clay, Kentucky. Claire will major in Chemical Engineering at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Alliance Coal Scholars Program also supports excellence in teaching through its Alliance Coal Teacher Achievement Awards – $500 awards to the elementary, junior-high, or senior-high teachers recommended by the top three scholarship recipients each year.
