Alliance Coal Scholarship Awards Announced
(PRWEB) June 29, 2015 -- Alliance Resource Partners, L.P. (NASDAQ: ARLP) and Alliance Holdings GP, L.P. (NASDAQ: AHGP) this week announced scholarship awards to 15 outstanding graduating seniors and recognition awards to five exceptional teachers.
The Alliance Coal Scholars Program recognizes scholastic achievement by the sons and daughters of employees, awarding $2,000 scholarships to the top five graduating high school seniors and $1,000 scholarships to the next ten highest-ranking candidates. The $2,000 scholarships are renewable for up to three additional years. Since 1996, the program has provided $263,500 in scholarships to 160 students. In addition, five teachers are selected annually to receive a $500 Alliance Coal Teacher Achievement Award. A total of $29,500 has been given to exemplary teachers since the program started 19 years ago.

The top five students, awarded $2,000 renewable scholarships, are:
Rachel Burke, graduate of Mount Vernon High School in Mount Vernon, Indiana, daughter of Michael Burke, employed by Gibson County Coal, LLC near Owensville, Indiana. Rachel will major in Math at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Payton Carver, graduate of Madisonville North Hopkins High School in Madisonville, Kentucky, son of Jonathan Carver, employed by Warrior Coal, LLC near Madisonville, Kentucky. Payton will study Engineering at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Emily Haynes, graduate of Hopkins County Central High School in Madisonville, Kentucky, daughter of Larry Haynes, employed by CR Services, LLC in Madisonville, Kentucky. Emily will study Psychology at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky.
Torin Lee, graduate of Grayville High School in Grayville, Illinois, son of Andrew Arthur, employed by White County Coal, LLC near Carmi, Illinois. Torin will study Sports Management at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana.
John McLemore, graduate of Tecumseh Junior/Senior High School in Lynnville, Indiana, son of John McLemore, employed by Gibson County Coal, LLC near Princeton, Indiana. John will major in Chemistry at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana.
The scholars receiving $1,000 awards are:
Tyler Blair, graduate of Norris City High School in Norris City, Illinois, son of Carlos Blair, employed by Gibson County Coal, LLC near Owensville, Indiana. Tyler will study Diesel Technology at Rend Lake College in Ina, Illinois.
Sydney Burnett, graduate of Carmi-White County High School in Carmi, Illinois, daughter of Seth Tate, employed by White County Coal, LLC near Carmi, Illinois. Sydney will study Biology/Pre-Med at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Erica Gaither, graduate of Caldwell County High School in Princeton, Kentucky, daughter of Steven Gaither, employed by Webster County Coal, LLC in Madisonville, Kentucky. Erica will major in English at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky.
Rayven Grant, graduate of Hopkins County Central High School in Madisonville, Kentucky, daughter of Steven Grant, employed by Sebree Mining, LLC near Sebree, Kentucky. Rayven will major in Biology at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky.
Regan Hatcher, graduate of Grayville High School in Grayville, Illinois, daughter of Robert Hatcher, employed by Gibson County Coal, LLC near Princeton, Indiana. Regan will study Nursing at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana.
Makayla Hensley, graduate of Princeton Community High School in Princeton, Indiana, daughter of Brandie Hensley, employed by Gibson County Coal, LLC near Princeton, Indiana. Makayla will study Nursing at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Shelby Myers, graduate of Hopkins County Central High School in Madisonville, Kentucky, son of Kenneth Myers, employed by Hopkins County Coal, LLC near Madisonville, Kentucky. Shelby will study Physical Therapy at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky.
Chasity Putlovis, graduate of Tucker County High School in Hambleton, West Virginia, daughter of Brian Putlovis, employed by Mettiki Coal, LLC in Oakland, Maryland. Chasity will study Nursing at Fairmont State University in Fairmont, West Virginia.
Margaret Sprague, graduate of Union County High School in Morganfield, Kentucky, daughter of James Vanover, employed by River View Coal, LLC near Morganfield, Kentucky. Margaret will study Nursing at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana.
Brooke Walden, graduate of Princeton Community High School in Princeton, Indiana, daughter of Steve Walden, employed by Gibson County Coal, LLC near Princeton, Indiana. Brooke will study Physical Therapy at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Alliance Coal Scholars Program also supports excellence in teaching through its Alliance Coal Teacher Achievement Awards — $500 awards to the elementary, junior-high, or senior-high teachers recommended by the top five scholarship recipients each year.
