Alliance for Climate Education Receives Clean Air Award
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 08, 2013 -- The Alliance for Climate Education (ACE) was presented with the Clean Air Award, in the category of Public Education on Air Quality Issues on Friday, October 4th. The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) grants the award annually to companies, organizations and individuals who have made a significant contribution to cleaning the air and creating a more sustainable economy.
As a national leader in environmental education and youth advocacy, ACE has educated over 1 million high school students on the science and consequences of climate change, as well as inspiring them to take action in their communities.
Kristina von Hoffmann, ACE’s Associate Program Director for the West Coast, and Pablo Gomez, Senior Climate Action Fellow, were both present at the ceremony on Friday to receive the award on behalf of the organization.
“We are incredibly honored to have received the award for Public Education on Air Quality issues,” said von Hoffmann, “not only because of the inextricable link between the dirty energy economy and air quality, but also because of the devastating impact that poor air quality standards are having on our youth population in Southern California.”
In Southern California, ACE has worked with over 300,000 young people high schools over the past 4 years. They are currently working in partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District Department of Sustainability to promote recycling programs and energy and water conservation in high schools within the district.
“Educating young people on the impacts of climate disruption is ACE’s mission, and catalyzing youth-led solutions has been our pathway to creating a cultural shift nation-wide,” continued Gomez, “Thank you for supporting our work to spread awareness about climate impacts locally and nationwide.”
