Almstead Celebrates Arbor Day With Events Throughout the Region
New Rochelle, NY (PRWEB) April 28, 2015 -- Almstead Tree & Shrub Care Co. celebrated Arbor Day this year with significant events all across the region. They included tree plantings, lectures, presentations, information booths and kids tree climbing stations at popular Arbor Day events, as well as complimentary tree pruning services.
“We are always pleased to join our local communities in making Arbor Day celebrations meaningful and inspiring,” said Ken Almstead, CEO. “Once again, arborists from each of our branch offices were able to participate in relevant events in their service regions.”
New Jersey:
On Saturday, April 19th, Almstead was at Memorial Park at Van Neste Square in Ridgewood, NJ to celebrate Earth Day. Arborist Ryan Duff, VP Michael Almstead and other Almstead staff handed out Colorado Spruce saplings, wild flower seeds, coloring sheets and other giveaways while Almstead climbers managed the Children’s Tree Climbing Station. Almstead’s tent at the event also featured a face painter for children doing different leaves and flower designs. Adults could try their luck at the “Free Tree Giveaway Raffle” for a chance to win a beautiful young Dogwood tree, with free planting and arbor care thrown in courtesy of Almstead. Also present was Sprig, "The Treedom Fighter," from the whimsical and popular Treetures characters that are dedicated to carrying the message of tree planting and care to children. Almstead is partnering with The Treetures Environmental Education Program to raise awareness and understanding of the natural world among children.
On Friday, April 24th, Duff and his crew were at Memorial Park in Ridgewood again to plant a tree as part of Almstead’s 50th Anniversary 50 trees donation.
New York:
On Thursday, April 23th, arborist Patrick McVey from Almstead’s Hawthorne Branch made a show-and-tell presentation on how trees benefit our environment to a class of very interested 1st Graders at Transfiguration School in Tarrytown, NY.
On Friday, April 24th, arborist Michael Marks from our New Rochelle Branch celebrated Arbor Day by planting trees and doing compost applications, along with local Girl Scouts, at the Magic Treetures Forest Nursery in Eastchester, NY. Also present at the event were Eastchester’s town supervisor, Anthony S. Colavita as well as Treetures character, Humus “The Decomposor,” and his creator, Judith H. Blau, the author of the popular Treetures series of children’s books. Almstead is partnering with The Treetures Environmental Education Program to raise awareness and understanding of the natural world among children.
Also on April 24, arborist and Hawthorne Branch Manager, Tim Katenkamp, planted two trees for the Parks and Recreation Department of the Town of New Castle, NY. One was at the little league field at Gedney Park and the other at a soccer field within Amsterdam Park.
Katenkamp and the Almstead crew also donated their time and expertise to the Town of New Castle on Saturday, April 25th in honor of Earth Day and Arbor Day. They did select removals and pruning of street trees near Town Hall and Robert E. Belle School as part of the Town’s “Clean Up Day.”
Almstead arborist, Russell Wagner, and Vice President, Michael Almstead planted an American Elm in Depew Park in Peekskill, NY on Saturday, April 25. The tree will commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Hudson Gateway Chamber of Commerce and the 75th anniversary of the City of Peekskill. The day was also designated as “Clean-Up Day” by the City of Peekskill.
Ken Almstead, CEO, Michael Almstead, VP, and Bill VanCura, New Rochelle Branch Manager were at Wave Hill Public Garden and Cultural Center in the Bronx on Saturday, April 25 to celebrate Arbor Day. Once again, Almstead sponsored the Junior Arborist Station where kids ages were able to don tree-climbing harnesses and hardhats and climb on to the canopy of a large, old sugar maple tree to get a birds-eye view of the Wave Hill grounds, under the watchful eyes of experienced Almstead climbers. The Almstead tent at the event featured tree care information as well as free giveaways of wild flower seeds, Norway Spruce seedlings and Almstead goodies.
Connecticut:
On Friday, April 24th, Gary Norman, Stamford Branch Manager and Michael Almstead, VP joined students, teachers and elected officials from the community, including State Senator Bob Duff and Mayor of Norwalk Harry Rilling, for Earth Day celebrations and to plant a tree at the Kendall School in Norwalk. Also present was Sprig, "The Treedom Fighter," from the whimsical and popular Treetures characters that are dedicated to carrying the message of tree planting and care to children. Almstead gave away Colorado Spruce saplings to all the students at the event.
Norman and the Almstead crew will also sponsor a Tree Climbing Station and exhibitor tent at the Norwalk-Wilton Tree Festival on Saturday, May 15 and at the “Down On The Farm Barnyard Bash” at the Darien Nature Center on Saturday, May 23.
