Alvarado Station Hosts Celebration of Lawrence “The Legend” Dye's Amazing Milestone Biking over 186,000 Miles on Famous Virginia Creeper Trail
Abingdon, Virginia (PRWEB) August 21, 2015 -- Lawrence “The Legend” Dye celebrated another amazing milestone on the famous Virginia Creeper Trail, logging over 180,000 miles on the VCT during the Annual Lawrence Dye Ride August, 1, 2015. There was a large gathering of fellow riders that biked with him for the 68 mile journey, some for the whole ride and others that started and ended at different points to enjoy the experience.
The Celebration festivities, cake and photo ops were hosted by Sally Johnson, owner of Alvarado Creeper Trail Café https://www.facebook.com/pages/Alvarado-Creeper-Trail-Cafe/291618941011322, located at Alvarado Station Depot. “We love to support the trail enthusiasts and local community; we are blessed to be a regular part of The Legend’s routine, and we are always eager to celebrate the VCT Ambassador," stated Johnson.
The Famous 34-mile Virginia Creeper Trail was inducted into the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy Hall Of Fame. (http://www.railstotrails.org/) There are only 27 trails to have received the honor in the United States. The trail attracts over 250,000 visitors a year and an estimated $25 million annual contribution to local economies. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy the unbelievable scenic wonders, biking, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, birding, tubing, canoeing, and kayaking all along the trail. Virginia Creeper Trail was voted one of the 10 Best Rail Trails and has been consistently written about in various news articles and magazines across the country.
What was once a railroad stop located halfway between Abingdon and Damascus, Alvarado Station is now a great location for food, drinks, and overnight rentals along the Virginia Creeper Trail. It is the only stop for snacks and restrooms on the 16 mile stretch between Abingdon and Damascus. “Alvarado Station has played an important part of the history of the old railway as well as the Creeper Trail, and we take that responsibility seriously,” said Johnson.
