American Air Force Veteran Reflects Upon his Time in the Philippines in ‘Nighthawk’
ARDSLEY, Pa. (PRWEB) July 03, 2017 -- In “Nighthawk: A Young Airman’s Tour at Clark Air Base” (published by Archway Publishing), Bill Bowers with Sandee Hart recounts Bowers coming of age in the 1980s while stationed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines. Bowers shares real-life stories that explore the ups and downs of service in the military, the culture and economy of the Philippines and the actions of a bunch of kids tossed onto an island paradise.
The book touches upon the bonds formed between those who serve in the military. Through a series of vignettes centered on the antics and comedic misadventures of a young airman’s first tour of duty, Bowers hopes his memoir will remind “readers that along the way are the strange trials and tribulations when becoming an adult that are necessary to construct our notions of self.” The book also offers insights into Filipino culture and beliefs.
Bowers adds, “The book serves as a reminder that every passing decade comes a cycle of change. We can never go back to who we were and our focus should be on making our future better for ourselves and our children. We all make mistakes and without those mistakes we cannot grow.”
Ultimately, Bowers meditates on humankind’s shared wants, needs and fears – everything that makes people, people.
