American Association for Access, Equity and Diversity Announces Three Distinguished Federal Agency Officials Who Will Speak at its Upcoming National Conference
Washington, DC (PRWEB) May 25, 2017 -- The American Association for Access, Equity and Diversity (AAAED), an organization of equal opportunity, diversity and affirmative action professionals, announced that three senior Federal civil rights and equal opportunity agency officials will be featured speakers at its 43rd National Conference and Annual Meeting, June 8 – 9, 2017 in Scottsdale, AZ. Catherine E. Lhamon, Chair of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and former Assistant Secretary, Office for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education, will join Thomas M. Dowd, Acting Director, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) at the U.S. Department of Labor; and Elizabeth (Isa) Cadle, Director of the Phoenix District Office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
The theme of the conference, “We are known by the tracks we leave,” acknowledges the importance of leaving behind a legacy that is more diverse and more inclusive. “AAAED welcomes these outstanding agency officials and acknowledge their longstanding commitment to leaving a diverse and inclusive legacy. We are honored to have them in attendance,” said AAAED President Myron Anderson.
Ms. Lhamon was appointed by President Obama to a six-year term on the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights in December 2016. Prior to her unanimous confirmation to chair the Commission, she served as the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education. Ms. Lhamon was previously nominated by President Obama to the position of Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights in June 2013 and unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate the following August.
Thomas M. Dowd is the Acting Director and career Deputy Director for the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP), providing critical management, decision–making and oversight for the agency’s three national office divisions (Policy, Operations and Administration) and the six regional offices. Prior to joining OFCCP in January of 2011, Tom spent nearly 20 years managing employment and training programs at the local, state, regional and national levels.
Ms. Cadle was appointed district director of the Phoenix District Office of the EEOC and as a member of the Senior Executive Service in October 2016. She served as the deputy district director in Phoenix since 2011 and as acting district director since November 2015. Previously, her 40-year EEOC career began in Buffalo, NY where she progressed from clerk-typist to investigative assistant, investigator and senior management positions. There, she developed a strong expertise in systemic case development and served on the 2005 Systemic Task Force.
The annual meeting will be held at the Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia, 4949 East Lincoln Drive, Scottsdale Arizona 85253. Mr. Dowd will be speaking at the AAAED President’s reception on Thursday, June 8th, which begins at 5:00 p.m. PDT. Ms. Lhamon and Ms. Cadle will be speaking at the luncheon on Friday, June 9th at noon. The conference is open to the press.
