American Banker Honors Patti Husic, Centric Bank CEO and Chair of Pennsylvania Bankers Association, as One of The 25 Women to Watch in U.S. Banking
Harrisburg, PA (PRWEB) October 25, 2013 -- Centric Bank President and CEO Patricia A. Husic has been chosen by American Banker as one of The 25 Women to Watch in U.S. banking and is featured on the cover of a special October edition of American Banker Magazine. Selected from hundreds of banking executives in a nationwide ranking, Husic was praised for leading an initiative to advance more women into executive management and C-suite roles.
“It is an honor to join leaders of some of the world’s most powerful banks. As a CEO, I understand my responsibility to lead by example and to meaningfully change industry environments where I can. The Most Powerful Women in Banking awards showcase specific Pathways to Power and are critical to prepare the next generation of women leaders,” said Husic. “I think we’re at a major crossroads in banking and in the American workforce.”
Ms. Husic also serves as Chair of the Board for the Pennsylvania Bankers Association (PBA), a member-driven organization championing tens of thousands of bankers across the Commonwealth. She is only the third female in the association’s 118-year history and the first woman to serve as Chair since 1998.
Husic is charting a new milestone as she spearheads PBA’s inaugural Women in Banking program to move women forward in a banking career track and into executive leadership. Understanding the vast under-representation of women in leadership, Husic is creating opportunities for advocacy, mentoring, and sponsorships. Most impressive is the path Husic is taking to bring about this change management.
“Many women are frustrated by the stubbornly low numbers of female representation at the highest levels of the banking industry. Some, like Patti, are responding with solutions to further their careers and those of the women behind them. It’s been gratifying to hear so many of the women on our ranking denounce the ‘Queen Bee’ syndrome, and to watch how they are reaching out and coming together to advance women’s progress,” said Heather Landy, editor in chief of American Banker Magazine and emcee for the 11th annual ranking.
In Pennsylvania, there are 12 female CEOs out of 231 bank holding companies, but Husic is optimistic about the influence forged by women leaders and their future in the industry.
“Based on nearly 1,000 responses from a statewide survey of female bank employees, there is a strong economic need and desire for women to advance in banking. At Centric Bank, we don’t have a women’s initiative, we have a track record.” Based on her bank’s own workforce dynamic, which is 75% female and 60% executive female, they continue to live this principle.
American Banker Magazine celebrated the honorees at an October 10 Gala at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. Out of the 75 women honored, Husic was one of only six CEOs.
