Boston, MA (PRWEB) June 17, 2015 -- Father’s Day marks a very special day for families and friends to celebrate the significant role that their father, step-father, uncle or grandfather has in their lives. Since Father’s Day shopping can often pose a challenge, ACCC has come up with several creative ways to show appreciation for all that Dad does without going over budget.
“Father’s Day is not all about buying the perfect gift or card, it’s about showing Dad how much you love and appreciate everything he has done for you,” said Steven Trumble, President and CEO of Newton-based American Consumer Credit Counseling. “There are plenty of ways to demonstrate your gratitude and thoughtfulness without breaking the bank.”
The National Retail Federation’s Spending Survey of 2015 reported that 75.4 percent of American are planning to honor Father’s Day. This year, the average buyer is expected to spend $115.57 on gifts for Dad, almost identical to last year’s average of $113.80.
While 62.2 percent of people will purchase a Father’s Day greeting card, 39.7 percent will also be out shopping for new apparel for dad, and 43.3 percent plan to celebrate the holiday with special outings such as dinner or tickets to a sporting event.
The survey also found $1.8 million will likely be used to purchase gift cards this Father’s Day, and another $1.6 billion will be spent on electronic gifts like smartphones and tablets. Other popular gifts include home improvement and gardening supplies, new tools, personal care items, sporting goods or recreational items.
There are also many gift ideas that are creative and cost-effective. ACCC has compiled five special and cost saving gift ideas that will surely be appreciated this Father’s Day.
1. Cook Dad’s Favorite Meal: Instead of eating out at a fancy restaurant, prepare your Dad’s favorite meal at home. Whether he is a breakfast lover or a hamburger lover, pick his favorite meal of the day. If he likes dessert then you can take him out for that as an extra special treat. Don’t know how to cook your Dad’s favorite meal? Another option is to ask him if he can show you.
2. Take an Adventure: Get away for the day with your Dad and explore a local reservation park, beach, museum or other interesting location. Enjoy the summer. Take a nice trail walk with him. Explore the great outdoors, see who can spot any wildlife first, and take the time to appreciate a peaceful time with your Dad.
3. Write a Heartfelt Letter: Let your Dad know why he is the best Dad! Write down your favorite things about him, any favorite memories you have shared together, or highlight how he has made an impact on your life. Instead of buying a Father’s Day card, this letter will make a great personalized one.
4. Learn your Family History: Pick a warm day to relax outside with your Dad while you ask him questions about his childhood. Ask him what he did for fun on the weekends, what his favorite subject was in school, and if he remembers about the house he grew up in. This is a great opportunity to learn more about your family history.
5. Make a Memory Box: Chances are you have collected remnants of memorable times you and your Dad have shared together. Maybe you have sporting event tickets, movie or concert stubs saved. Compile some keepsakes along with photos of you and your dad into a decorative memory box where he can keep his own mementos of you! These mementos can be glued all around a plain wooden box that can be purchased for no more than $6.00 at an arts & crafts store.
