American Diabetes Association of Maryland "Steps Out" with the Support of the Local Frederick Community
Frederick, MD (PRWEB) August 20, 2013 -- As the number of people affected with diabetes grows exponentially, the American Diabetes Association’s Maryland Chapter (ADA) invites all Marylanders to “step out” and join the fight against this epidemic.
With nearly 26 million Americans diagnosed with diabetes, ADA created Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes as an aggressive attack against the disease and a cry of hope for those affected by it. This year, the ADA will hold the Frederick Step Out Walk on Sunday, October 13, 2013. The 5k will be held at Baker Park on N. Bentz Street. Registration will open at noon and the walk itself will begin at 1pm.
There is no registration fee and no fundraising minimum, but all walkers are encouraged to fundraise as much as they can to help us find a cure.
The event will feature a live band and lunch will be provided by Subway. There will be a Kid’s Corner including a pumpkin painting station, face painting, and moon bounces. Participants are encouraged to bring family members and stick around after the walk.
Step Out Frederick is expected to draw close to 700 participants this year and has a fundraising goal of $250,000.
Every 17 seconds, someone new is diagnosed with diabetes. Current estimates project that as many as 1 in 3 Americans will have diabetes by 2050. Over 370,000 Marylanders have diabetes, including over 20,000 people in Frederick County. Last year, the cost of diabetes to Frederick was over $500 million.
