American Institutes for Research Finds Education Pioneers Retains and Supports Transformative and Racially Diverse Education Leaders
OAKLAND, CA (PRWEB) September 26, 2017 -- A recent report from the American Institutes for Research (AIR), “Education Pioneers’ Fellow and Alumni Demographics and Mobility Analysis,” finds that Education Pioneers “has been successful in recruiting, connecting, and advancing the careers of emerging, talented educational administrators.”
To continue to place hundreds more talented leaders throughout the education sector and grow its national network of over 3,500 leaders, Education Pioneers announced today that applications for its 2018 Summer Fellowship are open. The national nonprofit recruits professionals with diverse skills and backgrounds into non-teaching leadership positions throughout K-12 public education.

To assess Education Pioneers’ work and impact across the education sector, and its success in meeting its organizational goals, AIR analyzed the organization’s fellow and alumni data since EP’s founding in 2003. Among AIR’s findings is that Education Pioneers “has continued to successfully recruit racially and ethnically diverse fellows into leadership positions within the education sector [...] with the most significant recruitment gains in attracting African American/Black individuals into the EP program and educational leadership positions.”
Additionally, the AIR report finds that Education Pioneers alumni are highly educated, hold senior-level leadership roles in the education sector, and remain working in the sector over time:
- Education Pioneers Fellows are highly educated: 84 percent of Fellows held or were pursuing an advanced degree at the time of their Fellowship.
- Education Pioneers is developing a racially and ethnically diverse network of leaders who hold senior leadership roles: 26 percent of African American/Black Education Pioneers alumni, 26 percent of Hispanic/Latinx alumni, and 32 percent of Asian/Pacific Islander alumni hold “C-suite” positions, including Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operations Officer, and other senior roles.
- The majority of Education Pioneers alumni stay working in education after their Fellowships: 94 percent of alumni who worked in education in 2012 were still working in education in 2016.
