American Integrity Insurance Sponsors Field Trip for Tampa Students and Celebrates Commitment to Step Up For Students Scholarship Program
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) May 16, 2014 -- Students from Tampa Adventist Academy departed from their field trip at the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) this afternoon looking a little wind-blown.
The third- and fourth-grade students experienced 75 mile-per-hour winds in a hurricane simulator and had the chance to explore the Disasterville exhibit, a 10,000-square-foot interactive exhibit, where guests walk through interactive towns and experience the impact of several simulated natural disasters. They also enjoyed the WeatherQuest Program, including an interactive presentation where they learned the ins and outs of a weather broadcast.
The field trip, designed to provide an opportunity for students to learn about the science behind extreme weather, was sponsored by American integrity Insurance Group as an extension of the company’s support of the Step Up For Students Scholarship Program.
Before participating in the WeatherQuest program, American Integrity representatives presented the company’s $3.25 million contribution to Step Up For Students, which represents the total amount the company has given since joining the program in 2009. American Integrity's recent $750,000 pledge will provide nearly 140 scholarships for the 2014-15 school year.
“As a donor to the Step Up program, we wanted to take our involvement a step further and offer an educational and fun way for students to learn about extreme weather, especially since hurricane season is quickly approaching,” said Amanda Richter, marketing leader for American Integrity. “We are proud to be a part of this scholarship program and hope to continue supporting Step Up For Students in their mission to help low-income families gain access to the schools that best fit the way their children learn.”
Step Up For Students is a nonprofit organization that administers the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship program, and this year is helping nearly 60,000 low-income students attend a K-12 private school of their parents’ choice, or use a transportation scholarship to attend an out-of-district public school.
“We are thankful for American Integrity Insurance Group’s commitment to supporting low-income students through our scholarship program,” said Doug Tuthill, president of Step Up for Students. “Through their generous contributions, our donors are not only providing educational opportunities to students – they are providing hope for a brighter future. There’s nothing better than that.”
There are more than 2,500 Step Up scholars in Hillsborough County this school year, and more than 75 students using scholarships at Tampa Adventist Academy.
