American Lung Association to Host “Respiratory Rally” Education Event for People with Lung Disease
Honolulu, HI (PRWEB) April 18, 2014 -- On May 8, the American Lung Association in Hawaii will host a Respiratory Rally patient education event at Hawaii Kai Independent and Assisted Living Community, 428 Kawaihae Street in Honolulu, from 9:00am-2:30pm. The day will feature educational sessions, inspirational messages, and exhibits. Workshop topics will include Lung Health 101, vog and lung health, asthma overview, yoga for breathing, information on traveling with oxygen, and more. The event is free and includes a light breakfast and lunch.
The objectives of the program are for lung disease patients and their loved ones to end the day feeling more educated about these conditions and their respective treatment options and resources, to feel more empowered to manage their unique lung disease and to connect with others who are living with similar challenging health issues. Event participants will enjoy an exhibit area boasting resources to help patients and their families live a more full life with lung disease.
“We are very excited here in Hawaii about the upcoming Respiratory Rally. The event will cover topics including asthma, lung health, and vog - which is unique to Hawaii and affects our entire community,” says Nancy Bahn, Outreach Coordinator at the American Lung Association in Hawaii. “It is imperative to spread awareness and the knowledge about managing and living with lung disease. We’re pleased to offer this resource to help people improve their quality of life.”
Chronic lung disease is currently the third leading cause of death in the United States after heart disease and cancer. However, with proper education and compliance with a treatment plan, patients can find relief from their symptoms. The event is open to the public, including medical professionals and students (no continuing education credits offered).
