American Sentinel University and Colorado Hospital Association Name March Colorado Health Care Stars Award Winner
AURORA, Colo (PRWEB) April 17, 2015 -- American Sentinel University and the Colorado Hospital Association (CHA) recently presented Susan Clarke, MS RNC-NIC RN-BC CNS at the Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO) with the March Colorado Health Care Stars Award recognizing Clarke as an exceptional health care professional.
Colorado Health Care Stars is a new statewide health care professional award recognition program sponsored by American Sentinel University and CHA. The program was launched in February 2015 to acknowledge clinical professionals in Colorado who exceed expectations in the delivery of health care.
Clarke, Professional Development Specialist, Continuing Education/Outreach and Regional Trainer, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), has spent the past 28 years of her career as a leader and educator facilitating NRP instructor and provider courses for staff from CHCO, Colorado and the Rocky Mountain, Western Great Plains region.
In 2011, Clarke and her colleagues developed a framework for effective interdisciplinary NRP courses, implementing consistent course set-up and educational strategies incorporating both low- and high-fidelity simulation and debriefing to ensure that neonatal resuscitation teams (nurses, neonatal nurse practitioners, physicians and respiratory therapists) can practice as a team to improve their resuscitation skills, teamwork and staff/family communication. Through 2014, more than 750 participants rated NRP courses as outstanding (4.7 to 5 out of a top score of 5).
“Susan is a selfless and dedicated nurse of advocacy and education, particularly in the areas of neonatal resuscitation,” says Laura Brown, MD, associate professor of Pediatrics (Neonatology) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, who nominated Clarke for the Colorado Health Care Stars Award.
“She impacts our community by ensuring that all providers who are resuscitating neonates are trained in the best possible NRP courses and environment, and her innovation, leadership, and teamwork have lifted our institution to an exceptional level,” adds Dr. Brown.
