American Sentinel University Receives Positive Reviews for DNP Programs from Nursing Accreditation Commission
Aurora, CO (PRWEB) November 18, 2013 -- American Sentinel University recently hosted an on-site visit by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and received positive reviews of its Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program with specialty tracks in executive leadership and educational leadership.
“American Sentinel University’s DNP program met or exceeded the commission’s expectations in all six standards related to excellence in the areas of mission and administrative capacity, faculty and staff, students, curriculum, resources and outcomes required to advance to the next level of review to receive national accreditation,” says Mary Adams, president at American Sentinel University.
The site review team noted two particular areas of excellence.
“The accreditors noted the strong support of this program from the administration,” says Judy Burckhardt, Ph.D., MAEd, MSN, RN, dean, nursing programs at American Sentinel University. “They further noted the excellent support provided to students by the student success team and availability of a multitude of online resources.”
Accreditation by the ACEN is a voluntary, self-regulatory process by which non-governmental associations recognize educational institutions or programs that have been found to meet or exceed standards and criteria for educational quality. Accreditation also assists in the further improvement of the institutions or programs as related to resources invested, processes followed and results achieved.

There are two more steps before final accreditation is given to American Sentinel’s DNP program.
“Two additional ACEN committees will evaluate and review the site review team’s conclusions as well as American Sentinel’s application materials before final accreditation status is determined in the spring,” says Adams.
The ACEN has the sole authority to determine the accreditation status of applicant programs. A positive outcome for American Sentinel means DNP students who are enrolled during the fall cycle in which this visit took place will have graduated from an ACEN accredited DNP program.
American Sentinel’s Bachelor of Science Nursing and Master of Science Nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
The next cohort for the Nursing Practice (DNP) program with specialty tracks in executive leadership and educational leadership programs begins spring 2014 and registration is currently open through December 23, 2013.
