American Textile Recycling Service and Kohl’s Team up to Shop&Recycle for Back2School
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) July 30, 2014 -- The 2nd Annual Shop&Recycle Campaign kicks off at Kohl’s at Val Vista in Gilbert this week, sponsored by American Textile Recycling Service (ATRS). The weekend-long event promotes sustainable shopping and charitable giving as families, high schoolers and college-bound students shop for new fashions during the third highest revenue-generating season of the year. Every item donated benefits Weldon House in Phoenix and provides funding for its programs and services.
Kohl’s at Val Vista has pledged a $500 cash donation to the Weldon House in support of mothers in recovery and their children in residence at the facility.
Green recycling fairies from ATRS will be at the Kohl’s Val Vista Parking Lot on August 2-3. Shoppers are encouraged to stop by, take a silly selfie and learn about the importance of sustainable shopping while giving back to the community. Shoppers will receive Kohl’s coupons and free gifts in exchange for clothing donations of gently worn, out of season, unwanted clothes, shoes, sporting gear and other textiles. The Weldon House is in great need of backpack donations for the upcoming school year.
Americans are on target to spend approximately $290B on apparel in 2014 and yet will keep only 21% of those purchases. According to the SMART Association only 15% of this apparel is reused, re-worn or recycled while 85% ends up in municipal landfill.
“Back to School shopping season is the perfect time to remind shoppers about the importance of cleaning up Arizona’s waste stream. Giving back and paying it forward is easy when our unwanted goods can benefit someone else in need,” says Debra Stevenson Peganyee, Chief Marketing Officer for ATRS.
