American Water Summit 2013: New Directions in Water Finance
Washington DC (PRWEB) October 22, 2013 -- The longstanding model for funding water infrastructure, reliant on municipal bonds and other government subsidies, is not keeping pace with rising investment needs. At the same time, federal, state and municipal budgets are being squeezed. Despite this, alternative solutions have been slow to emerge in North America. This is finally starting to change as project developers get smarter about addressing community concerns regarding jobs, project costs, rate increases and political control. The water finance panel, chaired by Debra Coy of Svanda & Coy Consulting, will look at what is working today and what still needs to be done to increase the pace of water infrastructure investment.
Executives from the front lines in alternative finance will discuss lessons learned from recent projects they have been involved in and offer an insider’s view on market prospects for the coming year. Speakers will include:
• Brandon Freiman, director with KKR’s Energy and Infrastructure Group and lead developer for the 40-year KKR/United Water concession in Bayonne, N.J., now in its first year of operation.
• Peter Luchetti, partner with Table Rock Capital, which successfully led the controversial Rialto concession to fruition in partnership with Ullico and Veolia Water.
• Chris Taylor, executive director of the newly formed West Coast Infrastructure Exchange, an innovative multi-state enterprise designed to bring financeable projects to market and increase the pace of investment.
• Steve Zoota, managing director of Hydro Capital, a Mitsui-backed company that is the largest private investor in water infrastructure in Mexico. He brings his veteran perspective on the U.S. industrial and municipal water markets.
