Americans for Prosperity Rallies in Atlanta to Stop the EPA Power Grab
Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) July 28, 2014 -- Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips will join State Director Michael Harden to rally against overregulation from the EPA, and launch the Georgia Energy Freedom Alliance.
The rally will be held outside the Sam Nunn Atlanta Federal Building (on the Alabama Street side of the building), 61 Forsyth Street SE, Atlanta, GA 30303.
What: A rally to oppose the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed carbon dioxide reduction rules and to educate media and rally goers about the harmful impacts on job creation and energy costs followed by a press conference to introduce the Georgia Energy Freedom Alliance and the Georgia Energy Freedom Guiding Principles.
Why: In early June, the Obama administration announced the latest in its ideology-driven attack on traditional energy production — a new EPA rule to cut carbon-dioxide emissions from coal- and gas-fired power plants across the United States. This proposed rule mandates a reduction of 30 percent of the greenhouse gas emissions from the nation’s power plants by 2030, based on 2005 emissions levels.
“This is a pocket book issue. Federal micromanaging of Georgia’s electricity generation portfolio will invariably cause electricity prices to rise, and higher electricity bills are bad news for struggling Georgia families – and the most vulnerable families will be the hardest hit,” said Americans for Prosperity Georgia State Director Michael Harden. “And because such a significant portion of Georgia’s electricity comes from coal, the EPA regulations would have an overwhelmingly negative impact on jobs in Georgia.”
