AmeriStaff Home Nursing Announces the Premiere of New Traumatic Brain Injury Program
Troy, Michigan (PRWEB) March 19, 2015 -- AmeriStaff Home Nursing, a leader in the Southeast Michigan catastrophic home-based care industry, announces the premiere of its new Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Program. The announcement coincides with Brain Injury Awareness Month by placing emphasis on preventing falls and other injurious risks within the home setting. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 1.7 million people, including 475,000 children sustain a TBI each year and 3.1 million individuals live with a lifelong disability as an adult.
"Traumatic brain injuries are a concern for older adults as they age and struggle to maintain activities of daily living," said Christine Andrews, RN, Director of Nursing for AmeriStaff Home Nursing. "In honor of Brain Injury Awareness Month and the launch of our new program, we have spent considerable time implementing fall prevention interventions within the homes of our patients."
Effective fall interventions that are a part of the program include:
- Making changes within the home environment to allow for safe mobility.
- Exercise programs that can improve strength and coordination of the patient.
- Education on risk factors and prevention strategies both indoors and outdoors.
Falls are the leading cause of traumatic brain injury, accounting for more than 35 percent of occurrences and more than 60 percent of traumatic brain injury incidents in seniors. One of the best ways to prevent an elderly loved one from sustaining a traumatic brain injury is to help them reduce their risk of falling. AmeriStaff Home Nursing professionals are trained to assist older adults in identifying the dangers of fall risks at the home and can recommend and assist with strength training and exercises that can help improve balance. Homecare programs are designed for patients with traumatic brain injury to achieve the highest level of independence within the home while providing their loved ones with peace of mind.
