Amica Shares Tips to Promote Safe Winter Driving
LINCOLN, R.I. (PRWEB) January 31, 2015 -- The recent snowstorm in the Northeast has made traveling difficult throughout the region, so Amica Insurance is offering some tips to promote safe winter driving.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration, 24 percent of accidents each year occur because of snow, slush or ice. That’s why Amica is sharing the following tips from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:
• Drive slowly and leave plenty of space between your car and the one in front of you. There will be more time to come to a complete stop, if necessary.
• Know which type of brakes your vehicle has, and how to use them properly. For those with antilock brakes, apply firm, continuous pressure to slow down the vehicle. For those who don’t have antilock brakes, pump the brakes gently.
• If the car begins to slide, ease off the gas and carefully steer in the intended direction.
• If a plow is on the road, stay far behind it. That way, it can clear the road in front of you without blowing snow or de-icing materials at your vehicle.
