Amy Lewis Bear’s New Book Sheds Light on Emotional Abuse
Atlanta (PRWEB) April 25, 2014 -- Author and psychotherapist Amy Lewis Bear feels there is a lack of language to identify emotional abuse and its aftermath among couples, which ultimately creates a barrier to abuse recognition and treatment.
In her new self-help book, “From Charm to Harm: The Guide to Spotting, Naming, and Stopping Emotional Abuse in Intimate Relationships” (published by Balboa Press), Bear aims to empower readers to spot and define emotional abuse and its effects.
“In intimate relationships, partners are vulnerable to each other,” Bear says. “When one partner has a deep-seeded need to control the other, the partner who wants control often easily takes advantage of the other by professing love, but covertly undermining the other partner for better control.”
Bear says the beauty of “From Charm to Harm” is that it provides words and phrases – a language – to spot, name and stop specific psychological manipulation and emotional abuse tactics, thereby giving readers a way to understand abuse and protect themselves from it.
Dr. John Gray, author of “Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus,” commented on “From Charm to Harm,” saying, “Amy has written an important book that explains what happens when men and women play out their childhood wounds with their intimate partners. She puts words to the many and varied ways people hurt themselves and others as a result. Her book is a valuable tool for those involved in emotionally abusive relationships.”
