Anaren Receives Recognition as Overall Solutions Provider to the IoT, at IoT World Hackathon in Berlin
Syracuse, NY (PRWEB) October 28, 2015 -- Anaren announced today that the company was recognized as a winning technology sponsor at the IoT World Hackathon challenge at this year’s IoT World event in Berlin (October 5-7). The winning team was comprised of Ross Feehan, Android Developer at Apppli and a fellow freelance software designer, who utilized Anaren’s Broadcom-based AIR for WICED Bluetooth® Smart development kit and Anaren Atmosphere to create the winning solution: Called “Truck Sense.” The winning app allows users to view and monitor the humidity, temperature, and location of a refrigerated truck, as well as monitoring pallets (status and count).
“Once we came up with the idea for the hackathon, we had to pick the correct hardware to get the job done,” stated Feehan. After consulting with Anaren’s Lead Applications Engineer and hackathon mentor, Mihir Dani, the team decided Anaren’s Bluetooth Smart solution was a fit for the goals of their intended application. “We knew to go with Anaren's BLE device as it was wireless, small, quick and easy to program and had multiple sensors that we could connect to it,” Feehan added.
From there the team integrated the sensors and deployed the data onto the smartphone app they developed using Anaren cloud-based development tool Anaren Atmosphere. The end result — a graphically appealing and intuitive BLE Smart mobile solution which helps users avoid food spoilage in transit. Better yet, development of the app took only 24 hours from start to finish, an impressive feat recognized by the event’s hackathon jury.
This year’s IoT World Hackathon was held during the Internet of Things World Europe on October 5-7, 2015, at the Maritim proArte in Berlin. Sponsored by Cisco and supported by technology sponsored companies such as, Relayr, Sigfox, Anaren and Broadcom, the hackathon challenged developers and designers to use a variety of IoT technologies in hardware, software platforms, and modules to create a novel solution that would cater to IoT industry 4.0 — a standard for industrial IoT. Judging criteria was based on function, design, interoperability, connection with the IoT, and adherence to the challenge.
“I do believe it was the simplistic nature of the drag and drop Atmosphere development tool that allowed us to develop a fully functioning prototype in such a short period of time,” stated Feehan. “I would not hesitate to use Anaren's BLE device along with the Atmosphere development tool to not only develop quick proof of concepts, but also fully fledged applications that rely on hardware for sensor readings.”
