Andover Offers Seminars for New SAT and Statewide Testing Mandates that Cause Confusion and Anxiety
Westport, Connecticut (PRWEB) December 01, 2015 -- The new SAT debuts in March, and Connecticut has adopted the SAT in place of the Common Core (Smarter Balance) test for 11th graders. The special Connecticut statewide SAT administration is Wednesday, March 2. This special in-school administration can also be used for college admissions, but it won't include the Essay section.
Andover has launched a series of free seminars in Westport and Ridgefield to help guide parents and ease the anxiety of the new test and the special administration. “Many parents are confused about whether this Wednesday SAT will count towards college admissions and how colleges will view it,” says Andover CEO Nathan Allen. “Parents also have questions about how the new SAT compares to the old SAT and the ACT – not to mention the PSAT that juniors just took.”
Andover's seminar on the new test and Connecticut statewide SAT administration is entitled “The New SAT, the old SAT, the ACT, and idiosyncratic Connecticut Department of Education Decisions.”
The seminar will focus on the differences between the new and old SAT (which students can still take up through January), the ACT, and the special March SAT administration. Seminar information will be presented in the context of applying to college “while proposing the least painful standardized testing route,” Allen adds.
The Westport, CT seminar date is Tuesday, December 8 and the Ridgefield, CT seminar date is Wednesday, December 9.
College admissions questions will be covered at a seminar offered that Thursday, December 10, in Westport. That seminar, “Top 10 Secrets of the College Admissions Process,” will cover such questions as “How do PSAT scores fit into the college admissions process? Why don’t colleges really care about your cumulative GPA? Why is Score Choice useless? Why does the perfect essay usually hurt more than help? What can you do now to help improve your chances of being admitted?” The seminar will also cover college admissions trends and tricks as well as standardized tests, college admissions planning, school and summer activities, jobs, and volunteering.
All seminars start at 7pm and reservations are required.
According to Allen, the real work started almost a year ago, in January 2015, when Andover's Research and Development team began working on a course for the new SAT. “It's a totally different test,” Allen says. “So we had to draw on nearly three decades of testing R&D to really make this program great.” The result, he says, “is the best program we've ever produced.” Andover's new SAT prep manual tops out at over 500 pages, and the course includes an additional 400 pages of practice materials. New courses preparing for the March SAT begin in mid-December.
Andover has held the nation's highest average score improvement for SAT courses since 2007, and they believe the new course will produce even better results. “We set a standard,” Allen noted, “and I think we'll exceed it with the new course.”
