The awards, judged collaboratively between Poulos and his research team at http://www.reviews.com, are designed to help taxpayers make a more informed decision when it comes to self-preparing their tax returns. This year’s winners was broken down into three categories, including Top 6 Online Software, Best Online Tax Software for Beginners and Best Online Tax Software or Small Business. For the third consecutive year, TurboTax ranks among is on the top on Poulos’ list.

Coming in at second place is H&R Block, which he says will be integral in battling tax complexities.

Rounding out the list is TaxAct ranked third, E-Smart Tax fourth, TaxSlayer fifth and Jackson Hewitt in sixth place. Poulos gives E-Smart Tax, a Liberty Tax Service, the nod over TaxSlayer because of its recent redesign interface, competitive price and more than 4,000 retail locations that offer in person support.
