Andrews Osborne Academy Receives $700,000 Gift from The Andrews School for Girls Alumna
Willoughby, Ohio (PRWEB) March 20, 2015 -- Andrews Osborne Academy is the recipient of a $700,000 gift from the estate of an alumna from the Class of 1945 of The Andrews School for Girls. According to the family of the donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, Andrews played a very important part in her life and she never forgot the friends, teachers and community she came in contact with during her years at the school.
“This is the largest gift from an alumna in the history of the School. She carried a deep affection for her alma mater throughout her life and credited The Andrews School for teaching her to become secure, confident and self-reliant. We are so grateful for her generosity,” said Kimberly Lobe, Director of Institutional Advancement.
Visionaries who saw better things ahead for their country in Willoughby, Ohio, Wallace Corydon Andrews and his wife, Margaret St. John, founded The Andrews School for Girls in 1901. Margaret Andrews, a Willoughby native, who as a child of nine lost her mother, had strong feelings about the need for women to be self-sufficient and self-reliant. Mrs. Andrews became a firm believer that girls should receive enough education to become self-supporting. For 100 years, the School held true to her mission of educating young women in grades seven through twelve as both day and boarding students. In 2007, The Andrews School for Girls merged with The Phillips-Osborne School, a coeducation pre-school through grade eight day school.
Larry Goodman, Head of School, was deeply touched. "This school has made an enormous impact on young women – and now young men – for more than a century. The Andrews Alumnae are such an important part of Andrews Osborne Academy; we owe them so much. We are more than a little bit humbled by this alumna’s gift.”
“This gift will be used to maintain and develop the 300-acre campus that she loved so much,” said Dr. Goodman.
