Angel Flight West Announces The Endeavour Awards, The “Oscars of Public Benefit Aviation”
Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) July 26, 2013 -- Angel Flight West (AFW) is the second largest Public Benefit Flying organization in the U.S. after the Civil Air Patrol. As such, the 30-year-old AFW plays a significant role in general aviation as well as public benefit aviation.
Accordingly, and in fulfillment of its charitable mission, AFW announced today the inauguration of the first annual Endeavour Awards, celebrating public benefit aviation.
The Endeavour Awards, May 4, 2014, will be a red carpet celebrity black-tie event to honor, recognize and celebrate public benefit flying. Major entertainment and dinner will fill out an evening highlighted by awards given in three categories, supporting people and organizations that have committed resources and assistance to public benefit aviation – no-cost flights flown for humanitarian reasons.
Nominations for the Endeavour Awards will be officially announced in early 2014. The event will be held at the Samuel Oschin Space Shuttle Endeavour Pavilion in the California Science Center, Los Angeles, California. Dinner and the event will all take place under the majestic wingspan of the Space Shuttle Endeavour.
“It is high time we let the world know the GREAT things that aviation gives back,” said Endeavour Awards Gala Host Committee Chair, Mark Wolper. “We have scheduled the gala for Sunday, May 4, 2014. We chose a Sunday because the Oscars are awarded on a Sunday, symbolizing our intention that the Endeavour Awards will become the ‘Oscars of Public Benefit Aviation.’”
AFW will be on site at the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2013, the 61st annual gathering of the aviation world set for July 29-August 4 at Wittman Regional Airport.
“The Endeavour Awards is designed to bring unprecedented attention to public benefit aviation,” said Alan M. Dias, Executive Director of AFW. “We’ll be at Oshkosh to spread the news to all 500,000 attendees.” Accompanying Mr. Dias, also from AFW will be Janet Cathcart, Development Director; Ben Marcus, AFW Board Member and Co-Founder & Partner of jetAVIVA & Aerospace Capital; and, Steve Danz, Board Member and Chairman Emeritus of AFW.
Angel Flight West is attending EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2013 as part of the Air Care Alliance (ACA), a nationwide league of humanitarian flying organizations whose volunteer pilot members are dedicated to community service. Mr. Dias, Executive Director of AFW, is a member of the ACA Board.
