Annals of Long-Term Care Announces Quality Improvement Department
MALVERN, PA (PRWEB) July 16, 2013 -- HMP Communications Holdings, LLC, a leader in healthcare communications and education, is proud to announce the addition of a Quality Improvement department to their long-term care journal, Annals of Long-Term Care: Clinical Care and Aging (ALTC). Building upon ALTC’s mission to improve the care of nursing home residents by disseminating practical clinical information to healthcare providers, this new department will feature quality improvement projects (QIPs) that are being implemented at nursing homes throughout the United States, enabling and inspiring facilities to adopt programs of their own.
Quality Improvement articles will include the following features:
• An Abstract that frames a specific care problem or nursing home dilemma
• Three to five bulleted Project Pearls that outline the salient points of the project
• A clear, step-by-step descriptive format that includes methods, results, and a discussion outlining suggestions for implementation
• QIP leadership contact information for readers to obtain more information
“As our healthcare system continues to increase facility and provider accountability by moving toward incentivized, pay-for-performance models, quality improvement plays a much greater role in the future of nursing home care,” said Dr. Gregg Warshaw, Medical Editor, ALTC, and Semmons Professor of Geriatric Medicine and Chief, Geriatric Medicine Program, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. “To succeed in this new environment, many nursing homes are developing quality improvement projects that aim to improve health outcomes and beneficiary satisfaction at their facilities; however, few platforms exist for venues to openly share this information. Our goal is to provide a forum so that facilities find creative solutions to shared dilemmas.”
With Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurers all adopting incentivized, pay-for-performance programs by tying compensation to specific clinical benchmarks, many care facilities find themselves scrambling to implement their own QIPs. Unfortunately, challenges such as prioritizing problems and adopting the right strategy still serve as significant hurdles for successful implementation. ALTC’s new Quality Improvement department will look to fill that void.
“We hope that the articles in this new department will inspire leadership at nursing homes to better identify deficiencies at their facilities and develop their own improvement projects,” said Christina T. Loguidice, Editorial Director, ALTC, “We invite readers to share their QIP experiences with us so that we can help to grow this new information-sharing outlet.”
ALTC’s first Quality Improvement articles will be published in the July 2013 issue.
