Announcement: BluesGuitar.com Releases “Hot Blues Turnaround in the Key of E - Blues Guitar Lesson”
(PRWEB) January 21, 2014 -- The Turnaround is used many styles of music. The Blues Turnaround or V, VI, I (5-4-1) Turnaround came from the Ragtime Blues era. The cadence of the Blues Turnaround is backwards from traditional western music. The job of the Blues Turnaround is to show the listener where the chord progression ends and starts over, it does this by ending on the V (five) of the chord progression making it want to resolve back to the I (one).
Jon starts off this video lesson by explaining the shape of the chord used for the turnaround. He places his 3rd finger on the 9th fret of the 4th string, first finger on the 7th fret of the 3rd string and 3rd finger on the 9th fret of the 2nd string, which he explains as the E7 shape. Jon explains to play the lick as follows; first he plays the open 6th string as a quarter note on the one, next he strums the chord as a triplet, 2 & A, then he moves the chord shape down one half step and repeat the triplet rhythm, 3 & A, and down one half step again, 4 & A, and then resolving to an E triad that consists of 3rd finger on the 6th fret of the 4th string, first finger on the 5th fret of the 3rd string and 2nd finger on the 5th fret of the 2nd string played as a whole note, and finally he plays an A#7 and slides into a B7.
