Announcement: BluesGuitar.com Releases “Slide Guitar Lesson - Slide Lick Over a G Blues Progression”
(PRWEB) April 21, 2014 -- The origins of Slide playing have been traced back to single string African instruments. A slide can be made of steel, glass, porcelain, ceramic or any flat smooth object and is usually designed to be worn on the finger of the fretting hand. Slide guitar became a staple of the blues guitar sound early on first being recorded in 1923 by Sylvester Weaver. The slide is pressed against the strings lightly parallel to the frets without touching them to so that pitch can be continuously changed by sliding up and down the fingerboard without touching the frets.
Jon demonstrates this cool slide lick in G minor pentatonic as follows: slide into the 8th fret of the first string from below twice and then on the third time he descends the minor pentatonic scale starting at the 6th fret of the first string to the 3rd fret, 5th fret to 3rd fret on the 2nd string, 5th fret to the 3rd fret on the 3rd string and ends it with 5th fret on the 4th string to the 5th fret on the 5th string and then back to the 4th string 5th fret. Jon continues by demonstrating a simple blues turnaround that you can end it with. “The slide is a tricky thing,” says MacLennan. “It’s hard to intonate and you can’t just use your eyes, you have to learn to use your ears to get it in tune.” Guitar tabs are available for this blues guitar lesson at BluesGuitar.com.
