Announcement: GuitarControl.com Releases “Lead Guitar Lesson-Learn How to Play the Diminished Scale on Guitar”
(PRWEB) October 21, 2013 -- In this lead guitar lesson, now available at YouTube.com, Alejandra teaches how to play the Diminished Scale on guitar. The Diminished Scale or “Octatonic Scale” is an eight tone scale that consists of alternating whole and half steps. Jazz musicians often refer to this scale as the “half-whole” diminished scale, although technically it begins with a whole step. “Diminish” in musical terms is when you flatten a “perfect” interval, such as the perfect 5th of the major scale. A major triad (3 note chord) consists of the 1st, 3rd, and 5th tones of the major scale. By flattening the 3rd and the 5th you get the Diminished Triad. The Major scale is composed of seven tones, but the Diminished scale has eight tones. By altering notes in the Major scale you get the Diminished scale which consists of the notes 1 – 2 – flat 3 – 4 – flat 5 – flat 6 (#5) – double flat 7 (6) – and 7. In this video, Alejandra plays an example starting on “C” on the 6th string (8th fret). The pattern is as follows; on the 6th string frets 8, 10, 11 (whole-half), on 5th string frets 8, 9, 11 (half-whole), on 4th string frets 7, 9, 10 (whole-half), on 3rd string frets 7, 8, 10 (half-whole), on 2nd string frets 7, 9, 10 (whole-half), and 1st string frets 7, 8, 10 (half-whole). Mesliuk later shows examples of Diminished arpeggios and chords as well. Guitar TAB’s for this lead guitar lesson are available at GuitarControl.com.
