(PRWEB) November 11, 2014 -- “Claude Johnson here and I want to talk about drop D tuning”, says Johnson. Claude starts off this lesson by going over the tuning that is the standard for guitar as follows; 6th string E, 5th string A, 4th string D, 3rd string G, 2nd string B and first string E.
“For drop D tuning you are simply changing the low E string down to a D”, says Johnson. Claude demonstrates how to do this by matching the pitch of the 4th string, D, to the 6th string by ear. “You can play a lot of really cool stuff in this tuning”, says Johnson. Claude demonstrates the song Black Water by The Doobie Brothers as follows; Am (A minor) followed by the 2nd fret of the 6th string and slide to the 3rd fret and then D9 with the open 6th string for the root note. Claude says that this tuning is great for a lot of different styles of music including blues, which he demonstrates by playing some blues licks that incorporate the low D of the 6th string.
