Announcing First Solid State Storage Array Performance Test Specification
Boulder, CO (PRWEB) June 11, 2014 -- Evaluator Group is releasing the first Solid State Array performance specification, “Measuring Performance for Solid State Arrays,” which provides guidance to IT end users and vendors on the methodology that accounts for SSS and advanced inline data services. Measuring the performance of the new Solid State Storage (SSS) arrays requires new techniques and approaches. Most data sets and data streams generated by current IO generation tools are inadequate to demonstrate actual performance levels.
This specification builds on the SNIA specification released in 2013 that measured raw performance for individual solid state devices (SSD). Measurements for SSS arrays include:
- Pre-Conditioning
- Data Reduction technologies (i.e. thin provisioning, compression, deduplication)
- Capacity Utilization
- Data Set Size
- Data Patterning
“Our IT clients rely on real application performance data to make decisions. They have struggled to adequately conduct Proof of Concept tests, as previous methodologies do not adequately measure the SSS array workloads.” said Leah Schoeb, Senior Analyst of Evaluator Group. “This specification and the work that follows will clarify how and what is to be measured.”
