That means 1.6 million Americans will die from complications related to an eating disorder.
Cliff Koch saw this statistic sweep through his family when he lost his wife due to complications from her eating disorder. In his new book, “Miracles Happen – Sometimes” he details the degradation of his wife’s condition as she battled daily.
Originally to be written by his wife but finished after her death, the book takes a no-holds-barred approach to eating disorders and the consequences to not only the bodies of the victims, but the family they leave behind.
“Anorexia and bulimia are very rampant,” Koch said. “School age children have been seen trying to imitate ‘the beautiful people.’ They do not understand that eating disorders can not only destroy one’s health but can lead to death.”
“Miracles Happen – Sometimes” takes place over a twenty-year period of Koch and his wife’s lives as they navigate confusing medical terminology and difficult decisions about next steps for her life. Through a series of remarkably honest entries, his book describes the real and dangerous life of disordered eating.
Koch hopes this book resonates with youth, caregivers and others who are directly affected by eating disorders so that even one life may be spared.

About the Author
Cliff Koch was born in Berwyn, Illinois. At age ten, his family moved from Downers Grove to Southern California. While active in sports at an early age, he obtained AA degree from Cypress College and a BA degree in Psychology from California State University, Fullerton. There, he met Pamela, his wife of twenty-five years. Without her this story would not have been possible.
