Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) November 19, 2014 -- Final curtains for Brooklyn circus space The Muse will be on November 23rd, 2014 – but first, a pub crawl-slash-funeral procession that leads to the last spectacle staged in the venue. The acrobatic training space and multi-disciplinary performance venue has been operating at 32d South 1st Street in Williamsburg, but several months ago founder Angela Buccinni learned her lease would be not be renewed in order to make way for the corporate offices of a large media company.
After an extensive search Buccinni secured the perfect new space in Bushwick, which will become the largest circus training facility and independent venue in New York City, boasting 7,000 square feet of indoor space plus an additional 3,000 square feet of outdoor space (with 30-foot ceilings for high-flying acrobatics!). Work has already begun to renovate the completely raw space.
In order to finance this extensive work, a “Move the Muse” Kickstarter campaign was launched at the end of October. To date the campaign has raised nearly $24,000 – a little more than a third of the $60,000 goal with a December 6th deadline. Adding to the challenges of fundraising and moving, structural construction for adding a second story has already begun on the roof over The Muse. Deafening noise and falling particulates interrupt operations. Sparks sometimes fly into the space. When it rains, water pours inside. Due to the unpredictable circumstances of its current home, The Muse will be closing a month earlier than anticipated, with November 26th being the last day of classes.
The final performance in The Muse’s Williamsburg space will be Sunday, November 23rd at 8:00 pm. Tickets will be available exclusively through donating to the Kickstarter campaign. Prior to the show, there will be a public event in the form of a circus-style funeral procession through Williamsburg. A group of performers will be traveling to designated locations throughout the neighborhood and demonstrating an array of dazzling skills on an improvisational basis. Led by Fuerza Bruta percussionist Lautaro Burgos, the procession will literally drum up support and awareness for the Kickstarter campaign.
