Apache Cassandra User Survey Uncovers Scale, Performance, Tuning, and Administration Challenges

Palo Alto, Calif. (PRWEB) September 01, 2017 -- ScyllaDB, the next generation of Apache Cassandra, today released the results of a survey on the Apache Cassandra usage. The survey was conducted with 70 active deployments representing more than 200 clusters running 600TB of combined data on Apache Cassandra.

The research revealed many insights, including:

  • Performance, Tuning, and Administration accounted for 70% of total identified core Apache Cassandra challenges.
  • More than 30% of respondent’s don’t run repair over their Cassandra cluster
  • Nearly 25% of respondents run more than 5 Cassandra clusters
  • More than 12% of respondents run more than 100 nodes in their largest cluster.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the most popular infrastructure used with more than 60% of respondents using it
  • Among monitoring solutions and tools, the community has not converged on a clear leader. However, DataStax OpsCenter is the most popular monitoring solution for Cassandra with more than 20% of respondents using it.
  • Cassandra Version 2.x (including DSE 4) are most popular with more than 50% of deployments utilizing this version.
