Applied DNA Sciences Receives US Patent for fiberTyping
STONY BROOK, NY (PRWEB) March 19, 2014 -- Applied DNA Sciences, Inc., (OTCQB: APDN), (Twitter: @APDN) (the “Company”), a provider of DNA-based anti-counterfeiting technology and product authentication solutions, announced today that the US Patent and Trademark Office issued patent no. 8,669,079 for the company’s fiberTyping® authentication of cotton-based products.
The patented technology enables forensic identity testing of Extra Long Staple (“ELS”) Cotton, without pre-marking or additional preparation, and has been used successfully for more than five years by a range of large cotton organizations, with hundreds of samples tested including raw cotton fiber, greige yarn and fabric, finished fabrics, garments and other premium cotton-based apparel sold by retailers worldwide. It is currently used by cotton trade organizations, as well as mills based in China, India, Pakistan, Egypt, Peru and the Americas.
The analysis, much quicker than traditional testing methods which can take one to two weeks, determines whether a garment conforms to claims that it contains ELS — often called Pima — cotton. fiberTyping also can determine whether the cotton is blended rather than pure.
The technology allows cotton producers, manufacturers, retailers and brand owners to authenticate the original cotton DNA used in a wide range of cotton products, from bed linen, denim, shirts, and pants to other apparel. Large retail organizations are conducting fiberTyping tests, in large volume, in direct response to the need to assure quality and compliance.

Applied DNA Sciences is championing the use of fiberTyping as a complementary method of authentication providing another layer of forensic evidence to confirm original fiber content.
