APSP Restructures Certification Programs to Move Toward ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024 Accreditation
ALEXANDRIA, VA (PRWEB) October 08, 2015 -- The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) announces a restructuring of its certification program to meet the rigid ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024 accreditation standards.
This International Standard specifies requirements for an organization certifying persons against specific requirements, including development and maintenance of a certification program for individuals.
“As more and more states require APSP certifications for licensure, we must ensure that our certifications become the ‘gold standard’ of the industry,” said APSP Vice President of Development Patrick Giambalvo.
APSP is implementing processes for certification according to ANSI requirements so that there will be a streamlined transition to accreditation.
Certification is not a guarantee of performance by certified individuals. However, all current APSP certification holders, at all levels, have demonstrated pool and/or hot tub industry knowledge and/or skills. Certified individuals adhere to the APSP certification Code of Ethics and Conduct, and maintain their status through continued education.
As part of this change, APSP has implemented a new CEU accreditation system that only allows certain CEU’s to be applied toward certification renewal. “This move ensures that continuing education credits are applicable to the certification, much like the health care industry,” Giambalvo said.
All APSP certified individuals demonstrate a commitment to professional growth in the pool and hot tub industry and are strongly supported by APSP.
All eligibility, application, score reports, special accommodation requests and general inquiries regarding APSP certification will be handled through the APSP Certification Office, located in Alexandria, VA.
Purchases of education, membership or any other APSP services are not required to seek certification.
APSP certifications offered are: Certified Building Professional (CBP); Certified Service Professional (CSP); Certified Service Technician (CST); Certified Maintenance Specialist (CMS); and Certified Hot Tub Technician (CHTT).

Certified Hot Tub Technician (CHTT), Oct. 21-22, Phoenix
